The Midway Freehold is located in the central Pacific Ocean. It is a massive artificial island made up of thousands of ships interconnected by floating platforms. It is large enough to have a river and its own central lake and harbor. Midway has managed to avoid corporate influence and is a democratically run system. Its primary industry is the growing and processing of algea, which is its primary food source as well as its main export.

Unknown to most of its citizens, Midway floats over an abandoned undersea base that was used by the U.S. Military to service submarines. The base has been recently taken over by the AI named Masslight.
